Re: that clip

Surely you're aware of the fascinating meta-battle between Gregg Turkington and Tim Heidecker involving Marvel movie roles? One of my favorite elements of the Marvel world.

I'm not. I've never heard of either Gregg Turkington or Tim Heidecker, but I'm curious what this is about.

Oh ho ho!

Ok. First off, Heidecker and Turkington are alt-comedians -- Turkington is in that clip playing the Baskin-Robbins manager.

Now, they ALSO host a movie review show called On Cinema At The Cinema (most episodes are on YouTube) where they review movies. However, while they are reviewing real movies, they are FAKE reviews, and they are playing exaggerated personas also named Heidecker and Turkington. And despite co-hosting the show, they subtly hate each other. Also, they know nothing about movies -- when they review them, Heidecker always seems like he hasn't actually seen the movie, whereas Turkington only has some idiotic surface-level observation based on trivia no one cares about. It's very funny.

Here's where it gets interesting... the PERSONAS of Heidecker and Turkington both tried to get into Marvel movies. Turkington got the Ant-Man gig, so Heidecker (or, "Heidecker") allegedly bribed Fox to put him in "The Fantastic Four" (he is Ben Grimm's Dad, I believe). They fought about this to the extent where "Heidecker" allegedly bribed Marvel again to appear in the second Ant-Man (he's hosting the boat tour). Turkington got back at him by reprising his own role in the third Ant-Man.

Mind you, the real Heidecker and Turkington are active personalities who have appeared in dozens of movies, shows and specials. But "Heidecker" and "Turkington" are appearing in Marvel movies solely to spite each other.

I mostly understood that! I will look into On the Cinema at the Cinema!

The episode in question, but there's fifteen years of this.
